Babywearing Consultations & Carrier Try-ons
in Nelson, BC & the West Kootenays
In-home carrier try-ons, hands-on how-tos, no guesswork.
Real talk: shopping for a baby carrier in the West Kootenays is rough. There's no baby store down the street where you can get real, personalized advice, or try things on. Your local options are pretty much one or two carriers in a box… at Walmart or Canadian Tire 🍁 So, Plan B: you head to the "top 10 baby carriers" lists, read some reviews, cross your fingers and order online. And if it doesn't fit? Maybe you can return it? 🤞
Add in wraps, ring slings, buckle carriers, "4-in-1s," a price range from $40 to a lot (a lot), and instruction manuals that look like they were drawn by someone who's never met a baby. It's no wonder so many parents end up with a closet full of carriers they don't use.
That's where I come in. I bring the carrier store to you.
We'll walk-through different carrier types, talk about your needs and lifestyle and try on a whole collection of carriers in your home. I'll teach you how to wear your baby safely, ergonomically, and comfortably.
Together, we'll find the right carrier for you: your body, your baby, your lifestyle, and your budget. Then you can order online with confidence instead of guessing.
Think of me as your friend who's already made all the carrier mistakes so you don't have to 😅
Why do I love babywearing so much?
Babywearing keeps your little one close while freeing up your hands for literally everything else: coffee, the dog, your toddler, or a warm meal you’ve been putting off for 2 hours.
Going from womb-to-world - newborns often settle more easily when they're held close, and a well-fitted carrier means you can give them that closeness they crave, without your back and shoulders filing a complaint.
The key word is well-fitted. A carrier that's comfortable and set up safely is one you'll actually use, and one you’re baby will be happiest in - that's what these sessions are all about.
As a first-time parent, babywearing felt daunting, but when I took the plunge, it was a GAME-changer. Apart from the freedom it gave me (yay - hands!), it felt like a cheat-code for soothing my colicky little guy, and gave he and I the skin-to-skin time we needed to support our feeding journey.
Now, as a Certified Babywearing Educator, I’m so passionate about supporting my clients in building their confidence and learning a new skill.
Prenatal Babywearing Visit
Before baby arrives · In-home · 1.5 hours · $125
Who is this for: This is the "set yourself up for success" session. It's perfect if you're building your registry, wondering what you actually need, or want to feel confident before your baby's here.
Together we'll:
Walk through the main carrier types (stretchy wraps, woven wraps, ring slings, and soft-structured carriers) and what each one is best for
Try on carriers from my collection with a weighted demo doll, so you can feel the fit before you spend a dime
Practice newborn wrapping and soft-structured carrier how-tos step by step
Cover safe babywearing basics: positioning, airway safety, and what a good fit looks and feels like
Talk about your lifestyle (walks, hikes, errands, winter!) and your budget to narrow down your best fit
Make a simple plan for using your carrier in those first weeks
You'll also get my go-to shopping links (plus any discount codes I have - yay savings!), so you can order the carrier you actually tried and loved instead of the one with the most reviews (or the most TikTok influencers).
Partners, co-parents, and grandparents are welcome. Anyone who'll be wearing baby should try things on too, since the right carrier for one body isn't always right for another.
Bring: Any carriers you already own or have been gifted (optional) 🙂
We'll make sure they fit and that you know how to use them.
Postpartum Babywearing Visit
After baby arrives · In-home · 1.5 hours · $150
Your baby's here, and now you're trying to figure out the carrier that looked great online, but has been sitting in a box for the last two weeks. Or maybe you're ready to try something new, like switching carriers, learning a ring sling, or moving on to back carries with your older baby or toddler.
This session happens with your real baby (or toddler), in your home, where they're most comfortable.
Together we'll:
Troubleshoot the carriers you already own (so often it's just a strap adjustment away from comfy!)
Try on carriers from my collection with your baby to find what fits you both best
Practice safe positioning with your baby: face visible, airway clear, well supported
Work on getting baby in and out confidently (and calmly, even when they're fussy)
Talk through babywearing in real life: naps, errands, outdoor adventures, and staying warm (safely) in Kootenay winters
Explore next steps like hip or back carries as your little one grows
Every carrier I bring is laundered or sanitized after your session, so try on as many as you like. Babies come with drool, spit-up, and the occasional blowout, and I've got it covered.
Good for: Newborns through toddlers, transitions to new carrier types or when “what was working isn’t working anymore” - let’s fix that!

Nope! I bring a collection for you to try. If you do own carriers already, pull them out and we'll make sure they're working for you, or try some tips-and-tricks to get them to work better for you.

I don't sell carriers directly, and I’m not beholden to any particular brand. I'll share my favourite shopping links and any discount codes I have, so you can buy the one that fits you best with confidence.
There is no “best” carrier - just a carrier that’s best for you. -
Honestly? Options are slim in the West Kootenays. You'll usually find one or two basic carriers at big-box stores, and most families end up ordering online.
That's exactly why a try-on session is so valuable: you'll know what fits before you click "buy," so you skip the guesswork and the return shipping.
I so often see families who are given two hand-me-down carriers from family, buy a “top rated” one online, and buy another off a re-sale marketplace.
It’s my hope for you that we find you one, great carrier, instead of having you fumble through with 4 that are “just ok”. -
Yes, and I recommend it! Anyone who'll be wearing baby is welcome to try carriers on. Every body is different, so let’s make sure we find a fit, or adjustments that work for you both.

Anytime in pregnancy works, but the second or early third trimester is a sweet spot. You'll have time to shop and practice before baby arrives. And it’s a bit easier to try on carriers before the bump gets even more bump-y 🤰🏼
-
Whenever you feel ready. Some families book in the first couple of weeks, and others wait until they want to try something new. Please reach out if you’re unsure about timing or have special considerations like recovery from a c-section birth.
-
Totally normal and expected! We'll pause, feed, cuddle, and pick back up. Babies set the pace.
-
Yes, when the carrier fits well and baby is positioned correctly. That's exactly what we'll practice together. I follow Health Canada's safe babywearing guidance and will make sure you know what to check every time you wear your baby.
