Hi — I’m Laine 👋
I’m a Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Mom of two wonderful little humans (and at at least 20 houseplants). I’m someone who shows up with warmth, humour, and “birth bestie” energy when you need it most.
My path to birth work began with my own pregnancies. I welcomed my first baby in 2018, experienced pregnancy loss afterward, and welcomed a rainbow-baby in 2023. Those moments - the joyful ones, the painful ones, and everything in between - were transformative. The doulas who supported my partner and I made space for every emotion and helped us navigate our transitions (“Wait, there’s no manual for this!?”) with steadiness and confidence. Their care lit a spark in me that’s grown into the calling I now follow every day.
Through my practice, I offer in-person Labour & Birth Doula support through the Nelson Doula Collective, Prenatal & Childbirth Education, and Birth Photography for families in Nelson, BC, Canada, and the surrounding West Kootenay area.
I also support families from afar with Virtual Prenatal & Childbirth Education, 1:1 Virtual Birth Planning, and options that make doula care more accessible when local support just isn’t available, or financially do-able.
To deepen my knowledge and strengthen my practice, I’ve completed:
Certified Maternal Support Practitioner: Full-Spectrum Doula (Bebo Mia)
Childbirth Educator Training (Bebo Mia)
Certified Advanced VBAC Doula (The VBAC Link)
First Aid & CPR / AED Certification (The Lifesaving Society)
IPAC training (Provincial Infection Control Network)
Doula Support for Perinatal Loss Training (Bebo Mia & Evelyn James & Co.)
The Rebozo Reborn by Blissful Birthing Training
Birth Becomes You Birth Certified Photographer - In Progress!
I’m also an approved provider under BC’s Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program, meaning my services may be eligible at low-cost or no-cost. The Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP) is offered by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, Provincial Health Services Authority, and the BC Ministry of Health. The goal of the program is to increase healthy birth outcomes for Indigenous families by removing the cost barrier to accessing doula services. Please contact me for more information.
If you’re ready to feel supported, seen, and prepared for your birth,
I’d love to connect with you.
